From May 2–6, 2025, the PREPSHIELD project was proudly represented at the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM) Congress in Tokyo, Japan. The event brought together more than 1,000 participants from around the world, including leading professionals, researchers, and experts in the field of disaster and emergency medicine.

Monica Trentin and Monica Linty from the Università del Piemonte Orientale (UPO) presented the PREPSHIELD project, introducing its objectives, approach, and ongoing activities to an international audience of practitioners and academics committed to improving preparedness and response capacities.

Showcasing PREPSHIELD’s contribution to crisis preparedness

Their presentation highlighted how PREPSHIELD aims to enhance health crisis preparedness and response by integrating social, behavioural, and technological perspectives. The project’s emphasis on inclusivity – especially involving vulnerable and hard-to-reach groups – resonated strongly with the congress’s focus on equity and resilience in emergency medicine.

The session sparked valuable exchanges on the importance of trust, communication, and community engagement in effective disaster response, reinforcing PREPSHIELD’s alignment with global efforts to build more resilient societies.

Building global connections

The WADEM Congress provided an outstanding opportunity to connect with experts and organisations working across disaster medicine, public health, and humanitarian response. These conversations will help strengthen synergies between PREPSHIELD and international initiatives sharing the same vision: better preparedness for future health emergencies.

We warmly thank Monica Trentin and Monica Linty for representing PREPSHIELD and for their contribution to promoting the project on the global stage.
