On 22 September 2025<\/strong>, the PREPSHIELD research team<\/strong> from the University of Groningen,<\/strong>\u00a0Francesca Giardini<\/strong> and Echo Teng Li, <\/strong>held a co-creation workshop<\/strong> with Safety Region Experts <\/strong> from the Veiligheidsregio Groningen (VRG)<\/strong>. The session focused on agent-based modeling (ABM)<\/strong> and its potential to strengthen crisis preparedness and response strategies.<\/p>\n

From concept to collaboration<\/h3>\n

The workshop agenda included an introduction to the PREPSHIELD project, a presentation of the modeling approach, and an open discussion with practitioners. The main goals were to:<\/p>\n

    Prior to the event, the PREPSHIELD team conducted a mock session<\/strong> with modeling experts from the Norms and Networks Cluster<\/strong> at the University of Groningen. This rehearsal helped refine the presentation and ensure that the workshop was accessible and engaging for participants without a technical background.<\/p>\n

They described the approach as both powerful and engaging<\/strong>, emphasizing its potential to support evidence-based decision-making.<\/p>\n

    Bridging research and practice<\/h3>\n

    This exchange marks an important milestone in PREPSHIELD\u2019s mission to bridge academic research with operational practice, laying the groundwork for future collaboration between PREPSHIELD researchers and crisis management professsionals in Groningen.<\/p>\n
